Reverse osmosis (RO) is a membrane-technology filtration method that removes many types of large and small molecules and ions from solutions by applying pressure to the solution, when it is on one side of a semi permeable membrane. The process also results in an amount of salty briny waste.

Ultra filtration is used for the separation of suspended solids, colloids, bacteria. This technique uses membranes with pore size between 1-100nm.
